Last summer I got to find out what it's like to be an artist at Insomniac Games. One cool part of being an Insomniac is that you get to dream up a ton of characters for awesome console titles.
In my case, Insomniac NC needed me to design, model, and texture, a bunch of collectible critters for their new game: Ratchet and Clank All 4 One. I stepped up, and this was the result.
Thanks to Dave Guertin, Greg Baldwin, Kerry James, and the rest of Insomniac NC for a life shaping journey.
Created with: Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop. Rendered in Luna. Texture sizes: 512
I noticed on the link you posted with the closer look, the eyelids are separate objects. Is it the same way on all the creatures? And is this a common practice for these sort of creatures or this style? It does seem like it would be easier than trying to attach the eyelids to the head.
the eyes, eyelids, the body, and even some features on the body are seperate objects that are just combined together.
I used to have this notion that 3D models were some how all stitched together and integrated - turns out that isn't how it works. You can have as many separate objects as you want in a character so long as it deforms properly.
holy craaap ;.; You rock, man!
